East End London Goes IBSS

finally-it-gets-done-but we're-still-cleaning-up-the-mess

The East End NAP, gw.e2-9ed.uk.free2air.net is now properly running IEEE IBSS ad-hoc mode. It was previously using the old proprietary Lucent mode.

Big Thank-You's go to Jamie, the newsfilter maestro, who suffered a downtime of about a day whilst we nutted out what had to be done to upgrade the newsfilter host & the gw.

Not only that, but behind the scenes, Jamie upgraded apache, mod-perl & scoop to boot. We like this. :-)

Apparently Jamie now has problems with sound, and the gw after its upgrade to Red Hat 7.1 vanilla has a sincere timeout problem with its SNMPD - through a snmpwalk, it looks as though it wants to poll devices that are non-existent on the host & times out. :-(

Minor annoyances at the moment, but it means our stats have been zeroed for quite a while ...

I'll recover what usage info still exists, and try to get mrtg running on the gw & post a link to the site.

Phew ...

Come back from a weekend surfing in Cornwall(!) to discover free2air had been linked from ntk

Damn pity all those ppl who clicked on wouldn't have seen much.

Because it hasn't gone through QA, I haven't mentioned the site at all yet, but on the Friday as I I jumped into the car, I noticed a steady stream of hits. I quickly checked & noticed the user registration was dead. I had just enough time to post a note saying it was broken before I was pushed into the van to head for the coast ...

now i gotta fix the site first thing in the morning. read on for details of the link ...

A strong gale blew over the Hackney Rd. aerial yesterday.

Thanks to Jamie for investigation & lashing weight to the heavy tripod its currently mounted to.
